The HryvnyaThe official currency of Ukraine is called the Hryvnya (pronounced "HREVE-nyuh" in Ukrainian and "GRIEVE-nyuh" in Russian. (Russian-speaking Ukrainians sometimes refer to these as "rubles," but their value is not the same as a Russian ruble.) Exchanging Money in UkraineDollars and other foreign currency are not accepted in the stores or markets in Ukraine. But there are currency exchange shops everywhere. (Often they are little more than a window in a wall.) To find one, just look for the typical sign out front, showing the various exchange rates (see photo).
