Attractions for Kids in Kiev - Part 3When traveling with children, be sure to plan some activities that make it special for them, too. Here are some ideas for entertaining the younger members of your party in Kiev Ukraine.Lots for kids to do in Kiev at the Karavan Shopping MallThis enormous, modern shopping mall has lots that will please your kids. From the car-style shopping carts to ride in while shopping in their hiper-market (very big supermarket). To ice-skating at their modern indoor ice rink. (The cost is very reasonable, and includes rental of skates.) There is a kids recreation center upstairs, with video games, "car rides", miniature bowling, etc.Karavan also has a full-size bowling alley, and even a movie theater. You rent a lane in the bowling alley by the hour. The price ranges from 78 UAH per hour ($26) on weekday mornings, to 198 UAH ($40) per hour at peak times. And after all the fun, enjoy a snack in the big food court next to the skating rink. Choose from a number of fast-food choices, including several that will be familiar to you (like McDonald's, Baskin and Robbins, and Sbarros). Karavan also has a staffed "kids room," equipped with toys, play structures and cartoons on TV. They will provide up to one hour of free child care while you shop or eat in the mall. Karavan is located at 9 Luhova street. The nearest subway stations are Minksa and Obolon. From either of these, it is 3 stops away on a trolleybus or marshrutny. Karavan even operates free shuttle buses between these subway stations (and the Petrivka station) and the mall. They run every 15 minutes or so (except during the rush-hour, when they don't operate at all). (This is not a paid ad, just an enthusiastic endorsement from the author.). article continues below
Kids Playgrounds in UkraineAfter immersion in a new culture, your children may enjoy just doing something they're used to for a change -- like swinging at a playground. Kiev is full of kids' playgrounds, complete with swings, slides, climbing bars, seesaws, sandboxes, etc. However, you won't find most of them in the downtown or tourist-oriented areas. They are in the "suburbs" where actual Ukrainian families with kids tend to live. Here's how to find kids playground in Kiev. Look for a block of several of those tall apartment buildings you see everywhere in the outskirts of Kiev. Then walk behind one of the buildings. Behind them you will invariably find a large courtyard that includes a playground for the kids in the surrounding apartment buildings. (Though of course anyone is welcome to use them.) Read about one playground with a unique view in this post. Caution on kid's playground in Ukraine. Don't assume the kids playgrounds in Ukraine are up to par with those in your home country. Check the grounds for broken glass, and check the condition of the the swings, slides, before you turn your kids loose.
